Explain Alcohol

This campaign is trying to reduce alcohol use by young people in Rhondda Cynon Taff and Merthyr. One of the biggest influences on young peoples alcohol use is how parents use alcohol and whether they talk to their children about it. The Chief Medical Officer recently published a report saying that children under 15 should not be given alcohol as it can damage their health.

This website is divided into two sections - one for parents and one for children. It is for any parent who needs to talk about alcohol with their children - we are not saying that alcohol use is acceptable or not, just that there are things that are worth discussing.

The young people’s bit is aimed mainly at 11-13 year olds. We’re keeping it short as most of the interesting things are available through the links but rather than just getting info from the web we are trying to get young people to discuss alcohol and all the risks around it with their parents.

If you have any suggestions for things we could include on this site please send them to contact@substancemisuserct.co.uk
